Meditation is very useful and spiritual tool to help us regulate our emotional states it also helps us become more present and connected to the ´here and now´ instead of skipping into the past or the future. Visualisations can make meditations even more powerful especially adding all five senses, in a sense we trick our brains to believe in what we’re creating in our minds, here’s a quick example, close your eyes and imagine biting into a big juicy lemon, salivation takes place, even the smell and colour of the lemon comes to mind, the body is reacting to the image we’ve planted in our mind. Imagine how far we can get with positive imagery and consistently visualising our goals.
Maintaining a consistent mediation practice creates subtle yet important changes within us, each person is a world of its own and these changes are very personal. I find one of the most noticeable changes is the capacity to respond instead of reacting emotionally to situations and events. This fantastic superpower is thanks to an increase of the neocortex, the thinking part of the brain whilst the amygdala the emotional reactive part of the brain stays in repose. ´
